Because musicians have been doing live sets with MPCs that have 32 MB of memory. But 512 MB is the magical number for today's live musicians? Well, you take a lap top and have gigs of sounds at your finger tips.
1) the 5k require more ram because it has more features.
2) Using laptop instead defeats the purpose of using the 5k for live situations with that logic... We could have been using laptops with superior specs for years and never even considered an MPC.
I dont think it is possible to use more memory because the structure of the machine most likely can't allocate it. I cant say for sure because I dont know how the machine's structure is set up...
Maybe there might be a new method to doing live events utilizing the hard drive on the machine... I guess that needs to be explored. I am sure these guys took live situations into consideration.
Anyways more ram is always a good thing...... it means we can have more sounds. Why debate how much a person needs? I do think maybe the 4K needed to have that 512 incase people were using 24bit waves which I assume take up more space... but this machine has more stuff running on it that requires ram.
If we knew some info on the main board, and a few other things we mightbe able to calculate the max it can theoretically take, but I am not sure of that calculation.
