My 5k seems to have an uneven display contrast with the right side (where the backlight apparently is) being brighter. Is this typical of the 5k displays? My 4k display was even over the entire screen.

I have noticed this as well... the Right lower side is not the same contrast as the rest

Another reason to not buy the 5k
By dreadnutz Sun Feb 15, 2009 9:18 pm
mines seems ok.
a little bit flickering, but not a problem.

and your pads?

this is the only thing that i don't like so far. the pads are sensitive, but you have to hit them very hard.
i had the whole mpc serie (expect the 3k) and the best pads (IMHO) are the 60s/4k pads. they are thinner and softer.

i am not sure if the "softfeeling" is a 2nd hand symptom. the 5k is my 1st new one. i hope i will become them a bit "friendlier" by lot of playing.

i do a lot of livedrumming/playing on the mpcs so this point is very important for me.
could post some vids if u are interested...

Stop hating and looking for reasons not to buy the 5k. The contrast appears to be uneven because you have vents on the back of the display so it looks lighter on one side...

I am talking about the machine I own, not a demo at guitar center.
The display is off because of the way Akai implemented the backlight from one side of the screen, not the "vents on the back". The problem seems most noticeable at night. Here is a shot from in front of the 5k. It seems like you need to be sitting way over the machine with the display fully upright for the screen to appear even.

The pads are ok but definitely not as sensitive as the 4k which were great.

I Disagree. If you want to talk about great sensitive pads on an MPC...you should start with the MPC 2000.

And I Disagree with you,

, everybody knows you defend 5k to blood and sweat, so no-ones gonna take that seriously anymore.

You seem to bash your fantom G in so many ways I think its unfair. Only negative thing you said about 5k had something to do with its capabilities to chop right?

I think its kinda ridicilous that you have to post your defences to every post here, mvnation and propably futureproducers too, considering the subject 5k.

The reason you defend this machine, I dont know, But If thats some kind of propaganda after you bought it and felt bad cause it sucked and now you try to turn the tables for some reason. I think its just stupid.

Hell, you are the reason Just Blaze dont visit the forums anymore. nuff said

It is ok to disagree with me....although most of what you have written has nothing to do with this topic..but I will entertain you for a moment.

Over the years, I have seriously defended the MPC 2000, 2000XL, 2500, 3000, and the 4000 although these machines speak for themselves. So what I am doing today for the MPC 5000 is no different. There are numerous threads where I wrote about what I like and dislike about the MPC 5K. Do a search and you will find my input. The chopping and sampling functions are there areas I would like to see improved because they are what I use most.
Fantom G? I still own a Fantom G and its OS has flaws when it comes to the chopping, sampling and sequencing functions (dude...can you see the pattern here) when you look at what the Fantom X and MV-8800 does. This is the truth that you can visit the Fantom Forum to read that many agree. I don't hold anything back. I am one of the few people that actually spends time talking about workstations that I actually own/owned or use.

Just Blaze? I am the reason why he doesn't visit the forum? Wow...I thought he doesn't visit the forum because he is being paid by Roland to tell people how great their products are (although he still uses an MPC). But if I am the reason why he doesn't come around here..it is probably because I exposed his lies about the MPC 4000 being as stable as the MPC 5000. He didn't even own the MPC 4000 when it was first released (but I did). The first 3 operating systems of the MPC 4000 were terrible. He later retracted his statement and talked about later MPC 4K operating systems.

To wrap this up.....I am a member of the forums you listed. And as a forum member, I am entitled to give my opinion..and give it I shall. I am not bothered by what you write. You shouldn't feel bothered by what I write since it is aimed directly at these machines and not you personally. If you do feel bothered, that is your problem. Nuff said.

I had the same issue until I adjusted the pad settings. Works like a charm now!
