i could be wrong but this doesn't sound right. i sell 1000w grow lights and they only run 4.8amps @ 240v. i don't see why 19w would run at 12.6amps, maybe 1.26amps sounds more like it to me. i don't care either way though, i wouldn't use an external battery unless it was approved by akai. good luck.

hmm i'm not too sure i got it right now. i know that Power=Current x Voltage, but it could be that heat losses in the transformer add to the current used if measured at the mains plug.

also the formula would probably be best applied at the output of the transformer, but you'd also need to know the power requirements of the actual mpc ie without the mains transformer.

woah, big man..... i wouldn't go that far.

Didn't anyone pay attention in physics class?

>>> Watts divided by Voltage is Ampere <<<

19 Watt divided by 230 Volt (Germany) is > 0,083 Ampere

1st. As there's inefficiency in every transformer, the actual drawn current from a battery would be less, as the transformer is completely bypassed.

2nd. A typical Laptop Li-Ion Battery gives at least 45-60 Watts at 12 or 24 Volts. Thus a 1k would run at least a few hours on it.

what would scare me is the idea that the mpc would have no way of telling you if it was low on battery, and it would just CUT OFF when the battery runs out. this freaks me some.

It would be very easy to integrate a small circuit with an LED which would blink after the battery voltage drops below a certain level.
As a matter of fact these little circuits are used in a lot of applications.

Sounds like you know enough to get this to work. If you can get the technical information together, i'll get the hardware together.

and cheap.

no akai 500 could be as good. hell, the sp404 in my opinion rivals the 1000, but in a give/take kind of way -- what the mpc1000 doesn't have in effects, the sp404 more than makes up for. what the sp 404 doesn't have in sequencing/options, the mpc does have.

i'm thinking about picking one up and running the mpc's individual outs into the sp404's ins, or the alt outs on my mackie into the sp404 and using to be midi controlled from my mpc just for effects and live purposes.

i'd do that waaaaay before picking up an mpc500. mpc1000 is portable enough for me.

^i have thought about that, too. Would prolly be a dope combination to have. I'd love to try one out, but i don't think that they have any sp's for sale down here in Finland :/
Anyone else have any ideas / suggestions concerning the mpc1000 / sp-404 combo? Sorry, a lil offtopic i suppose.

yeah dude, i did do physics, and yeah, i did make a mistake in my original calculation! what a dumbass (me). at least i knew the equation! Power=CurrentxVoltage! (this is the same as Watts divided by voltage is ampere as you pointed out Rhythm-is-tha-Music , i made my mistake by dividing voltage by power, this is also how i got a 'C' in my Physics A-Level!)

OK so, my stupidity aside, it now seems possible that a truly portable mpc1000 is a viable project for the moddingly unchallenged out there.

to help us on our way, does anyone (by anyone, i mean samurai sam  ) have any pics of the power supply area of the mpc inside?

cheers in advance

Help us out rhythm. Maybe sparq could get us some schematics and info reguarding the circut board and power supply?

i'm sure if akai came up with this for the 1k and the 2.5k, they would implement a battery indicator that would pop up on the main screen or something when it's on battery power.

failing that, i'm sure someone could take a small part out of something battery powered, something that tells you when you're running on battery and when the battery's power is low.
