So Akai has hidden agenda's and always fall through?
What bugs are there with the 2500 that are left over from V1.0 the original OS?
Hmmmmm
Now look at the bugs that they do actually have currently, they are centered around features that were added and need some additional changes to current some problems.
Yet you said this about JJ
Unfortunately, more bugs will come about as new features are added. So when you saw 30 bugs, they were not all there at once. This is a gradual thing.

How is that any different from what Akai is doing?
It's not.
It's just so funny how people act like JJ is Moses leading his people to the promised land that Akai wouldn't let them have.
The big picture is pretty simple, all JJ is going to really accomplish is Akai will change how their units store the OS and the end user will suffer.
Necessary to prevent the OS from being hacked again.

Here's the difference...
JJ addresses the bugs and fixes them as quick as posible.
Akai ignore bug reports and pretend they don't exist.
When we had TBonus tell us how to use a workaround to save files, Akai most likely saw the posts and said "fuk it, they got a workaround. we dont need to fix anything now".
As for your Akai doomsday scenario, they'd end up shooting themselves in the foot if they attempted to prevent the OS from being hacked, unless they offered a bug-free OS with all the features JJ is implementing. consumer trust in Akai would go right out the window.

BTW... it's blatantly obvious that Akai are crippling the OS on the 1000, 2500 and 500, as JJ's work exposes the fact.

Either that or Akai's programmers REALLY SUCK!

I'm willing to believe it's BOTH :!:

It's funny how people act like this is the official Akai forum or something.
There has never been any proof that Akai even reads this forum, just an assumption people tend to make.
Bugs should be reported to Akai not run around this forum like that's the same thing as reporting it to Akai.
You really speak from a strange point talking about Akai crippling a product.
It's what the product was designed to do and who it was designed to sell to.
So a Maxima and Altima should be the same vehicle???
No, but either serves as transportation.
Use some logic Akai is not trying to design one MPC they design various units at various prices that serve different people.

When Akai upgrades the Boot ROM in the 2500 and links it to the Flash sector it will prevent a hacked OS from being able to run.
Very simple and already being tested.
MPC's have always had the ability to run a boot loader, the difference was that it was directly linked to the Boot ROM, they stepped away from that and they saw their firsted hacked MPC OS.
The question will be if they just do a cut in on the production line or make it a revised version like 2500 plus or 2500xl.
Will have no affect on 2500 sales it will only prevent hacked OS's.
As for the file work around I'm still not convinced it not something that people unknowly do.
I have used my 2500 w/ the 40g Toshiba, 512CF, CD-M25 and Akai 128 heavly and have never had any problems saving, creating folders or anything to my HD.
The unit sees at least 18 hours of work a day.
I never use the USB and only install the CF card when I am saving to it, I never just leave it in the unit mounted.
I always save the entire memory to a new folder since I work on songs not beats and I always purge unused samples so all my saved samples are part of a Program.
Maybe I'm just lucky but it seems I would be more likely to see it since I am constantly doing stuff.

JJ page clearly displays many of the bugs in their OS (and more are even posted in the forums). Go back and check. It doesn't matter how fast they fix them. More keep poppin up. How can you rave about a new OS with so many problems?

Let's flip the coin for a second and ask the same thing about Akai.
$2000 is ALOT of money to spend on a 2500 that STILL has bugs. That's why i told you a year ago that I'll wait a year before I even consider buying a 2500. I'd be extremely pissed if I had to deal with all that for an entire year and Akai STILL aint got it right. For you, it's no skin off your back, cause you got money at your disposal to go and buy another mpc3000. For me, $2000 is alot of money to be "putting my faith in" as opposed to $30 on JJ's OS.

You don't even own an MPC 2500?

Sovereign wrote:It's funny how people act like this is the official Akai forum or something.

There's a reason why Akai doesnt have an official forum... same reason why Roland got rid of their official forum. They can't deal with the truth, the facts, the criticism, the bug reports, the failure to maintain any established communicationb with their paying customers. And don't tell me otherwise because i've been there.
There has never been any proof that Akai even reads this forum, just an assumption people tend to make.

I know of atleast 2 akai employess who actually post here. One of them is an ex-akai employee (he used to work for them before they went under a few years ago. The other one gave himself away by the cumberland rhode island location (which isnt in his profile anymore). Theres more that lurk here as well, but i cant tell you how i know that.

Bugs should be reported to Akai not run around this forum like that's the same thing as reporting it to Akai.

Bugs are reported on a daily basis to Akai from many forum members in this (2500) forum, as well as the 4000 forum.

You really speak from a strange point talking about Akai crippling a product.

No. I speak from a REALISTIC standpoint, KNOWING what the CPU in the 1000 and 2500 is capable of (well before JJ even came into the picture).

It's what the product was designed to do and who it was designed to sell to.

Bull$hit... JJ already put a hole in your theory!

So a Maxima and Altima should be the same vehicle???

No. becasue they have different engines. Guess what? The 1000 and the 2500 have THE SAME engine (CPU). Wanna prove me wrong?

No, but either serves as transportation.

See my response above. Your point is moot.

Use some logic Akai is not trying to design one MPC they design various units at various prices that serve different people.

Here's some logic for ya...
You've been brainwashed by advertising hype if you actually believe that. It's all about competition with other companies (Roland, Yamaha, etc.) in order to protect the bottom line... PROFITS! This is nothing new. It's been going on with all the big companies for the past 3 decades or so, and it'll continue for as long as this earth keeps rotating.

When Akai upgrades the Boot ROM in the 2500 and links it to the Flash sector it will prevent a hacked OS from being able to run.
Very simple and already being tested.

I call bull$hit again. Unless you work for Akai, you couldn't prove this to be factual at all. If anything, it sounds like a poor attempt to intimidate third party developers.... and it aint happening there, Bill Gates (or is is Sean Shea?)! :p

MPC's have always had the ability to run a boot loader, the difference was that it was directly linked to the Boot ROM, they stepped away from that and they saw their firsted hacked MPC OS.

I still call bull$hit. You got a credible source??? I highly doubt it!

The question will be if they just do a cut in on the production line or make it a revised version like 2500 plus or 2500xl.

The real question is, have you ever heard of the phrase "cutting your nose to spite your face"? That's what Akai would be doing if that were true.

Will have no affect on 2500 sales it will only prevent hacked OS's.

I gotta go put my boots on, cause the bull$hit's piling up really high now! :p

As for the file work around I'm still not convinced it not something that people unknowly do.

*YAWN*

18 hours a day, my ass! That leaves you with 6 hours a day to eat, sleep, $hit, shower, and shave. What about work? How do you fit THAT into your schedule? Don't tell me your one of the many here that "work in the industry", cause I'll still call bull$hit unless you can actually prove that or ANYTHING that just spewed outta your fingertips! You done now? Or do I gotta go grab myself a clothes-pin to put over my nose... cause it REEKS of bull$hit in this thread now! :p

You don't even own an MPC 2500?

Jahrome... you're a "Johnny Come Lately" as far as the JJ OS is concerned. You've never quite paid full attention to JJ's OS from the start, or you'd KNOW that there werent 30 bugs right from the start. An NO, it's NOT all listed there... only current OS 4.0 bugs which come out of NEW FEATURES!
And guess what? JJ ACKNOWLEDGES THEM AND FIXES THEM! Can you say the same for Akai???? Nooooooo!!! All you'll get is a half-ass bugfix after several complaints to sleepy shady sean shea! How many new features have you got over the past year now? Not a hell of alot from what I've read compared to the JJ OS. Now when JJ catches up with his work and comes around with an OS for the 2500, YES, you're going to get an equal amount of bugs along with all the new feaures... BUT they will get fixed! Nobody's pointing a gun to your head, telling you that you gotta buy the JJ OS when it comes out (and I know you're not implying that anyone is). But in the end, you'll see a HUGE difference between Akai and JJ. by then, you'll question why your even running an Akai OS when JJ's OS will be quantum leaps past them. It's already happening for the 1000. There's no turning back for those in the know!

PS- I dont need to own a 2500 to know how to use it. I already have all the features you have and more. The only difference is a few hardware components. The CPU IS THE SAME! :)

not to mention they won't freeze your shit on a new folder. not 1 of the bugs in the os's i've been faithfully installing have shown bugs that interrupt my workflow.

here's an example of the most complained of bug in the newest os. this is a dramatization, so it's better written than the original complaint, but it's really not far from the truth.

"when i hit play start and let the seq play, i want to hit play start 3 more times to create a corny, overdone stutter start intro. bug - when i hit play start when the seq is already in play, it doesn't start from the beginning again!!!!!"

these are the "bugs" that we're talking about. not amp envelope bugs, not freezing bugs, not new folder bugs, not data corruption bugs...these are more like....pea under 100 mattresses type bugs, to those familiar w/ the brothers grimm...

First of all, you really don't have a clue about JJ. If you did, you wouldn't be saying 99% of the crap you are writing. But anyway.......

You really don't have a clue do you? Go to JJ's own page and count how many bug fixes has occured in October 06. Next, go through the threads in the forums of all the forum members that have reported bugs. If you can count, you will easily come up with 30 plus bugs. That is if you can count ??? And, I have paid attention to what is going on with the JJ OS. But it will never install it in any MPC that I own.

As far as new features? I purchased MPCs for what they can do and not for every silly thing that I think it should have in the future. The 2500 has given me dozens of enhancements/features over my 3000 and 2000XL. It is still a drum machine and sequencer..not a multi-track recorder. There is nothing I can do with an MPC that I can't accomplish with numerous software programs on the market. You hyping a JJ OS for primitive features that I have had for years is funny. There is no new technology in any of these new MPCs and even in the JJ OS. SO you can keep going on and on about it..but it is silly.

And really...I don't care if you have the same features that I have in a cheaper MPC. What you eat doesn't make me crap. I wouldn't purchase a 1000 for any reason. You are barking up the wrong tree here. This is the 2500 forum. You do know that if we wanted a 1000, would could have purchased one?

So distortedtekno, what is your point here? Go play with your 1000 and enjoy your JJ OS. Nothing we do here will impact what you are doing. One more time.....no, I don't want a 1000..and I am guessing, but other 2500 users wouldn't trade their MPC for that as well.

This was taken from JJs site. Now add all the reported bugs in the 1000 forum and you have your list. Again, I don't care how fast something is fixed if it breaks something else.

As far as my MPCs, there isn't any bug or problem I have that prevents me from being happy with them. Unlike you guys, if I was unhappy, I would get rid of them.....

distorted is talking about a bunch of stuff that he really has no clue about. It has nothing to do about my pride. Its more about your pride..both of you. Both of you can keep using the 1000 and which ever OS you desire. There is a forum for you to talk about it. At least come up with something new to talk about. Even I get bored talking about the same stuff

read the previous contradiction. we're barking up the wrong tree while you started this thread, plus you've been trolling the 1k (OS 2 thread from last year) and the OS3 forum???
now THAT'S comical and even more contradictory!

That list of bugs you posted still don't validate any point you're trying to make.... especially when the small handfull of 2500 updates (which still contain bugs) is subpar in comparison to the JJ OS. You can keep checking Akai's website hoping for them "official" bug fixes, but all I see there is a ball of tumblweed blowing in the wind, while Akai ignore most of the bug reports they receive. Meanwhile, the bug reports we send to JJ get aknowledged and fixed very quickly! All you got is the typical cut n' paste "patience is a virtue and will be rewarded" email response from $leepy $hady $ean $hea!

distortedtekno,

You are 100% correct.

I started this thread, but is was not really intended for you 1000 owners. And the only reason why I ever post in the 1000 forums is becuase guys like you spend way to much time over here posting BS. (and no....I don't have anything to do...just like you). You don't own an MPC 2500. You have no clue what problems it has. I was among the first in the forums with the MPC 2500 and have always wrote about any bugs I found. There is no laundry list of bugs/problems. You would know this if you actually used/own one.

Write what you want. But it doesn't change the fact that you have no idea about either operating systems. And you can't stand the fact that you can't afford one. If you did, you wouldn't write some of the things you write. While you take these things so seriously, its just a joke to me. I really enjoy getting you guys worked up. (pisssss...I really don't care, in case you didn't know).

Anyway......please let me know why I need to keep checking Akai's website for an OS update when my MPC works just fine? Again, if you owned one, you would know. Folder bug? Do a search here to find out why more experiened users don't have this problem.

Now back to JJ. He/they still hasn't released a bug free OS no matter how much you rave/rant and/or hype the OS. There were over 30 bugs fixes this past month. Why would you attempt to hide or down play it. Its the truth. Not something I made up.

While I wish Akai's updates would be quicker, and there are things I'd like changed with the 2500 (e.g. filters on a per-track basis, midi-sync to be 100% perfect, proper-sounding timestretching like I can get using £75 software) I'm very wary of a third party coming along with their own OS, promising far more than Akai are delivering. If Akai had designed the MPC with the features offered by JJ in mind, surely Akai would be implementing these features?
